Abstract
The article examines the key trends in the transformation of family values and parental attitudes among students in the Astrakhan Region in the context of the sociocultural and demographic changes in modern Russia. The study is based on a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach that combines elements of sociology, social psychology, demography, and cultural studies. The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence changes in attitudes towards marriage, family, and parenthood, as well as to determine the role of socioeconomic, cultural, and gender differences in shaping the marriage attitudes of today’s youth. The empirical base was formed by data from a comparative analysis of a sociological survey of Russian student youth conducted on the platform “A Caring Person” (“Family and Parental Attitudes”, March 2025, all-Russian sample with 189,953 respondents) in the Russian Federation and the Astrakhan Region in particular (n=808), processed using linear and logistic regression analysis. The analysis evaluated three key variables: willingness to get married, intention to have children, and attitude towards divorce in the presence of minor children.The study found that age is a statistically significant factor affecting the willingness to get married; employment affects the intention to have children; and gender affects the attitude towards the permissibility of divorce. However, knowledge of government support measures for families, although it demonstrates a positive impact, did not prove to be a statistically significant predictor. The results obtained indicate a significant transformation of young people’s value orientations: there is an increase in individualistic and egalitarian attitudes, rationalization of marriage behavior, and the shift of family plans to later stages of life. At the same time, there is a high level of declarative significance of the family as a basic value in life, which confirms not the destruction, but the evolution of the family institution towards an emotional partnership model. The scientific novelty of the study lies in identifying the regional features of the transformation of family and parental attitudes in the multinational environment of the Russian Caspian region, and its practical significance lies in the possibility of using the obtained data to improve youth and family policy, develop programs to support young families, and increase the effectiveness of demographic strategies.
